Connecting Montana’s beginning farmers and ranchers with the tools they need to succeed
With the average age of farmers and ranchers in Montana increasing, there is a need to help the next generation, like Johnston and Brosten, to have the greatest possible chance for success in Montana’s number-one industry. The following free services are available to beginning farmers and ranchers as well as to those wanting to expand or retire:
Tools:
• Work Link connects those wanting to learn how to farm or ranch with experienced producers with on-farm employment.
• Mentor Link connects those wanting to learn how to farm or ranch with a wide range of formal and informal partnerships.
• Land Link connects farmers who are beginning or expanding their land with farmers and other landowners who want to see their land stay in agriculture when they sell it.
Resources are available at Farm Link for:
• Production Planning
• Marketing
• Land Access Resources
• Traditional and alternative sources of financing
• Financial management tools, including tax information
• Risk management
